History

In 1962 VaroAtlas was founded by Atlas Elektronik, Bremen, and Varo Inc, Dallas, as a joint venture. The intention was a "technology transfer" from the USA for static power conversion equipment for the first post-war submarines of the German Navy.

In 1966 Krupp took over Atlas Elektronik and, in 1967, sold all shares to Varo. VaroAtlas diversified in land and aviation projects and started a new line of business: Trading and service of night vision devices from Varo.

In 1975, by way of executive buyout, VaroAtlas became EUROATLAS.

In order to intensify the commercial business EUROATLAS acquired the companies Dr. Jovy GmbH in 1978 and Specht Stromrichter GmbH in 1979. Both companies merged into JOVYATLAS in Leer.

In 1989 MagneTek acquired EUROATLAS and JOVYATLAS and teamed up both companies with a group of four other business units to the sector Power Technology Systems.

At the end of 1994 this sector was acquired by the existing management team, supported by the Carlyle Group, from MagneTek. The name of the sector became Power Paragon Inc.

In 1997, Power Paragon, Inc. joined Power & Control Systems Group, a full-line provider of ruggedized, reliable and cost-effective electrical power systems and services for military and commercial applications.

In 1998, Power & Control Systems Group was acquired by L-3 Communications, a leading merchant supplier to aerospace, military and commercial primes. Based in New York, L3 Communications serves the Department of Defense, select U.S. government intelligence agencies, aerospace and defense prime contractors and commercial telecommunication and cellular customers. Power & Control Systems Group is the power arm of L-3 Communications, a leading supplier of secure communications systems and products, microwave components, avionics and ocean systems, telemetry, instrumentation and space and wireless products.
